Andrew McGarrell

is the

Ziner in the Spotlight!

Andrew McGarrell, now an academic librarian in St. Joseph, Missouri,
has been on the move since childhood, including a year in Paris at age
seven.  At 13, he and his parents left the United States for the long
term, spending a year in southern France before acquiring a house in
Umbertide, in the Umbria region of Italy.  He spent his teenage years
there, going to local schools before finishing high school in an
American school in Rome.  One summer he went on his first big trip on
his own - Scotland, Denmark, Yugoslavia and Greece on a one-month rail
pass.  He certainly learned the problems of covering too much ground
in a short time then!

Andrew now takes several Internet-located and booked trips a year
within North America, viewing some possibly frivolous trips as
investments because of the frequent flyer/stay points they earn (or at
least making that excuse).  Every so often, he trips to Italy where
his family still owns a house.  He has been to most Western European
countries and Prague.  He can claim a visit to Africa via a day trip
to Tangier.  In fall 2002, he took the big step of a trip to Asia,
visiting Hong Kong, Macau, Vietnam, and Cambodia.  While there are
many fascinating places in the world that he has yet to visit, he is
more likely to return to familiar areas.  After all the time he's
spent in Italy, there is still much to see there.  He also dreams of a
return trip to Portugal, after his first trip in fall 2000.

Andrew signed on to TheTravelzine when Don and Linda created it in
1999.  Besides the on-topic discussions, he has enjoyed several
get-togethers around the world, meeting many interesting Ziners.  The
members of TheTravelzine in turn are lucky to have had the benefit of
Andrew's wonderful experience and advice.
